Kaye Bradshaw joins GLOBE to lead their community programs for the Victorian LGBTI community
After the recent departure of David Micallef from their committee, GLOBE, the leading LGBTI organisation that represents Victorian professional and small business owners, today announced that Kaye Bradshaw will join the committee in the capacity of Community Director to spearhead its support of the LGBTI community in Victoria.
Bradshaw said: “I’ve been impressed by the impact that GLOBE and its members have made to many individuals and community groups in Victoria. I am excited to continue this work and identify ways to support causes that are important to the LGBTI community in Victoria.”
Dan de Rochefort, GLOBE President has welcomed Bradshaw, saying; “Kaye has a long history in galvanising support for groups that are working at the intersections and may have been overlooked. Most recently assisting the AFL on gender and non-binary participation policies. ”
In a recent member survey, GLOBE members said that they highly valued the work GLOBE does in the community but would like to see the organisation go further to do more in the to support the community. Bradshaw will work with the GLOBE committee to deliver on what its members and the Victorian community want.
Micallef, who launched GLOBE’s Community Awards said: “I couldn’t think of a person more capable than Kaye to hand over GLOBE’s Community Portfolio to. Kaye is a formidable person and I know GLOBE’s community portfolio will thrive under her leadership.”
Micallef will now shift his focus to other Victorian LGBTI Community organisations, including Melbourne Queer Film Festival, where he currently serves on the board.
For the past 26 years GLOBE has been supporting the Victorian LGBTI community by recognising unsung heroes and providing grants for grassroots efforts.
- The GLOBE Community Awards celebrate achievement in Victoria’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities – serving as a poignant way to recognise the work being done and the great strides being made in and for our community, and to celebrate unsung heroes.
- The GLOBE Community Grants program provides financial assistance to Victoria’s LGBTI individuals, students and organisations, donating well over half a million dollars in its history. The benefactors of the program are often support needs of the community that are serving the most marginalised in our community.
Recent research conducted by Backstage Insights & Strategy has shown that outside the LGBTI community, people believe that equality for LGBTI people has been achieved with marriage equality. However, Bradshaw notes that there is still a need to continue to fight for LGBTI rights.
Bradshaw said: “2019 is shaping to be a challenging year with an election year and the religious freedom bill continuing to attack the rights of LGBTI community members, particularly trans, gender diverse & non-binary members. Niche community groups and individuals will need all the help they can get to continue to advocate for equality – the fight for LGBTI rights is not over.”
